Personalised care for men and women at every life stage
Many of our patients are children, young adults, parents and working professionals, with older family members seen in the same clinic. Health needs change as life moves from studying to work, relationships, parenting and midlife.
At Kenneth Tan Medical Clinic, we provide practical and evidence-based care for men’s and women’s health, anchored in family medicine. We are not a one-off screening centre or a single-issue “men’s clinic” or “ladies’ clinic”. Instead, we look after you in the context of your family, work, emotions and long-term health.
Our team includes both male and female Family Physicians so you can choose to see a lady doctor for sensitive issues if you prefer.
Women’s health in a family practice setting
Many women juggle multiple roles – worker, partner, mother, daughter, caregiver. We aim to make women’s health care accessible and realistic within that reality.
Common areas we help with include:
Cervical cancer screening (Pap smear / HPV test)
Age-appropriate screening according to national guidelines, with explanation of results and follow-up plans. We also discuss and provide HPV vaccination where suitable.Breast health
Assessment of breast symptoms such as lumps, pain or nipple changes, and coordination of screening mammograms or ultrasound when indicated.Menstrual and hormonal health
Evaluation of irregular, heavy or painful periods, suspected PCOS, premenstrual symptoms and perimenopausal changes. We can do initial assessment and management in primary care, and arrange gynaecology referral when specialist input is needed.Contraception and pre-conception care
Counselling on practical contraception options (including pills, patches, condoms and emergency contraception) based on your health, lifestyle and future plans. For couples planning pregnancy, we offer pre-conception checks, medication review and optimisation of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and thyroid disease.Pregnancy-adjacent and post-natal care
Early pregnancy confirmation and general health review, as well as post-natal checks focusing on recovery, mood, sleep, breastfeeding concerns and contraception, in coordination with your obstetric/midwifery team.Common infections and pelvic concerns
Assessment and treatment of urinary tract infections, vaginal discharge and infections, and other common issues, with clear explanation of when a gynaecology opinion is recommended.Sexual health
Confidential STI screening and treatment, discussion of sexual pain or low libido, and addressing how mood, hormones, childbirth and stress affect sexual wellbeing.
If you would prefer to see a female doctor for women’s health, our staff can help to arrange an appointment with Dr Estelle or another suitable doctor, subject to availability.
Men’s health for different life stages
Men often put off seeing a doctor until problems are advanced. We offer discreet, straightforward care for men’s health, including:
Metabolic and cardiovascular risk
Blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and weight management, with a focus on long-term heart and brain health, not just numbers.Prostate and urinary symptoms
Evaluation of urinary frequency, weak stream, nocturia and other symptoms that may suggest benign prostate enlargement (BPH) or other conditions. We can discuss the pros and cons of PSA testing in your context and coordinate further tests or urology referrals when indicated.Sexual health and performance concerns
Confidential assessment and management of erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and related issues, taking into account cardiovascular risk, medications, stress and relationship factors.Mental health, sleep and stress
Many men present with “tiredness”, insomnia, irritability or burnout rather than saying “I am anxious” or “I am depressed”. We explore these concerns sensitively and suggest realistic steps, which may include counselling, medication or lifestyle changes.Hair, skin and hormonal concerns
Assessment of hair loss patterns, acne, weight gain or reduced energy, and basic evaluation of possible underlying causes, with referral where more specialised care is needed.Sexual health and STI screening
Discreet testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, with clear advice on prevention and partner notification.
Integrated care for couples and families
Because we are a family medicine clinic, we often care for both partners, their children and older relatives. This allows us to:
- Align vaccination, screening and chronic disease care for the whole household.
- Discuss contraception, fertility and pregnancy planning with both partners present if desired.
- Recognise how work stress, childcare, financial pressures and sleep deprivation affect everyone’s health, not just one individual.
For example, a visit for a child’s vaccination can be combined with a parent’s blood pressure review or Pap smear, making it easier to keep up with health checks amidst a busy family schedule.
Why see a Family Physician for men’s and women’s health?
Specialists such as gynaecologists and urologists are important when invasive procedures, advanced imaging or surgery are required. However, many issues in men’s and women’s health:
- Can be assessed and managed safely in primary care.
- Are closely linked to chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disease or mental health, which are already looked after by your Family Physician.
- Benefit from long-term follow-up, adjustment of treatment and discussions that unfold over time rather than in a single specialist visit.
Seeing a Family Physician first means:
- You do not need to decide on your own which specialist to see.
- You get an integrated view of how different issues (weight, hormones, mood, sleep, sexual health, fertility) fit together.
- When specialist referral is necessary, it is done with a clear question and background, so the visit is more focused and efficient.
What to expect at your visit
A men’s or women’s health consultation is conducted in a private and respectful manner. We start by listening to your concerns and asking about your health, medications, family history and life situation. We then perform a focused examination and, if appropriate, discuss tests such as blood work, urine tests, STI screening, Pap/HPV tests or imaging.
After that, we explain our assessment in straightforward language, outline options and agree on a plan. This may include lifestyle changes, medication, vaccinations, contraception choices, or referrals for further evaluation. Follow-up is arranged so that we can review your progress and adjust the plan if needed.
You do not have to have “the perfect story” ready before coming. It is enough to know what is worrying you; we will guide the rest.
