Routine medical checks for official requirements
Many applications and renewals in Singapore require a medical examination by a registered doctor. At Kenneth Tan Medical Clinic, we perform these standard statutory checks in a straightforward, organised way – and, where needed, we can also help you understand any findings and arrange follow-up care in the same clinic.
We do not offer a “special” or premium statutory service; we simply aim to do the routine work properly, clearly and on time.
Types of statutory checks we commonly perform
We provide medical examinations and form completion for:
Ministry of Manpower (MOM) work pass requirements
- Work Permit applications / renewals (including six-monthly checks where applicable)
- S Pass applications / renewals
- Employment Pass (EP) applications / renewals
Driving licence medical examinations
- Medical reports for driving licence renewal, especially for seniors or those with chronic conditions, using the relevant LTA forms
Pre-employment and company medicals
- Baseline checks requested by employers, tailored to the forms or requirements provided
Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA)–related checks
- Medical examinations required for PR or selected long-term passes, where applicable
Insurance and financial planning
- Medical exams and reports for life, health or critical illness insurance applications, according to insurer forms
Education-related medicals
- Medical check-ups required by universities, polytechnics, ITE and specific training programmes
If you have a specific form or requirement that is not listed here, you are welcome to bring it along and we will advise whether it can be completed in a GP clinic setting or needs a different type of assessment.
What happens during a statutory medical check
Although the exact requirements depend on the requesting authority, most visits follow a similar pattern:
Registration and form review
You provide your NRIC/FIN/passport and the original forms or instructions from the authority, employer or insurer. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, please bring them along for vision testing.Medical history and examination
The doctor will ask about your general health, medications and any relevant past conditions, and perform a physical examination according to the form’s requirements (for example height, weight, blood pressure, vision, basic systems examination).In-clinic tests
Where required, we can perform simple tests such as:- Urine dipstick
- Vision testing (e.g. Snellen chart)
External tests, if needed
Some forms (for example certain MOM or immigration checks) may require additional tests such as chest X-ray or blood tests. We will explain what is needed and arrange these through partner laboratories or imaging centres.Form completion and certification
Once all required results are available, the doctor will complete and certify the forms. In many straightforward cases this can be done on the same day; if external blood tests or X-rays are needed, completion depends on when those results are ready.
If your form has specific deadlines or submission instructions, please bring them so we can plan accordingly.
If something abnormal is found
Occasionally, a statutory medical check picks up previously undiagnosed issues such as high blood pressure, abnormal blood tests or other findings. In those situations, we will:
- Explain the result to you in plain language
- Indicate what it means for your form or application, as far as the form allows
- Offer follow-up appointments in the clinic to investigate and manage the issue as part of routine care, if you wish
You are not obliged to continue follow-up with us, but many people find it convenient to address newly discovered problems with the same doctor who identified them.
What to bring
To avoid delays, please bring:
- Your NRIC/FIN/passport
- The original forms given by MOM, LTA, ICA, employer, insurer, school or other authority
- Any previous medical reports relevant to the condition being assessed (e.g. letters from hospital specialists)
- Your glasses or contact lenses if you use them
- A list of your current medications and significant past medical history
If the form specifies fasting (for example for certain blood tests), please follow those instructions. If you are unsure whether fasting is required, you can call our clinic beforehand to check.
Book a statutory medical examination
If you need a medical check-up for a work pass, driving licence, school, insurance or other official purpose, we are happy to assist.
You can book an appointment online or call us to speak with our staff.
When booking, please let us know which type of form you are bringing (for example “MOM work permit medical”, “driving licence medical”, “insurance medical”), so we can allocate appropriate time and advise you on any preparation.
