Vaccinations & Immunisations

Vaccination-focused family practice

Vaccinations are one of the most effective ways to prevent serious illness at every age. At Kenneth Tan Medical Clinic, immunisation is a core part of our practice, not an afterthought. We provide:

  • Free COVID-19 vaccination under the National Vaccination Programme for eligible individuals, as part of Singapore’s ongoing COVID-19 strategy.
  • Comprehensive childhood, adult and senior vaccinations aligned with the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule (NCIS) and National Adult Immunisation Schedule (NAIS), including Healthier SG vaccination subsidies where applicable.
  • Selected newer vaccines such as shingles and RSV vaccines for older adults, and a needle-free flu option for suitable patients.

Our aim is simple: help children, adults and seniors stay as healthy and independent as possible through timely, evidence-based vaccination.

Childhood vaccinations (NCIS)

We provide the full range of vaccines under the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule, including:

  • Combination infant vaccines (e.g. against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, Hib, hepatitis B)
  • Pneumococcal vaccines in early childhood
  • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
  • HPV vaccination for eligible age groups under the national programme

For eligible Singaporean children, many NCIS vaccines are heavily subsidised at CHAS GP clinics such as ours.

We update records to the National Immunisation Registry (NIR) so your child’s vaccination history is kept centrally.

Adult & senior vaccinations (NAIS and beyond)

For adults and older persons, we follow the National Adult Immunisation Schedule, Healthier SG recommendations and international guidance. Common vaccines include:

  • Influenza (flu) vaccine – recommended yearly, especially for seniors, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women and caregivers. We provide standard injectable quadrivalent flu vaccines, and we are introducing a needle-free intranasal flu option (for eligible age groups and health conditions), for those who strongly prefer to avoid injections, subject to availability and current regulatory guidance.
  • Pneumococcal vaccines – to reduce the risk of serious pneumonia and invasive disease. We provide options in line with national recommendations, and we can also discuss broader-coverage vaccines such as PCV20 for adults where appropriate.
  • Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Td/Tdap) boosters – particularly important for adults around infants and for those with wounds at risk of tetanus exposure.
  • Hepatitis A and B – for adults who are not yet immune, especially those with risk factors or specific travel plans.
  • Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) – for adults who are uncertain of prior vaccination or immunity.
  • Varicella (chickenpox) – for adults who have never had chickenpox or vaccine, especially if they live with vulnerable persons.
  • HPV vaccination (e.g. Gardasil 9) – for women and men outside school-based programmes who wish to reduce their risk of HPV-related cancers and genital warts.

Where applicable, we will advise on subsidies and MediSave use for nationally recommended adult vaccines and Healthier SG–covered vaccinations.

Shingles and RSV vaccines for seniors

For older adults, we place particular emphasis on preventing infections that cause hospitalisation, disability and loss of independence.

  • Shingles (herpes zoster) vaccine
We offer the newer non-live shingles vaccine, which reduces the risk and severity of shingles and its complications (such as long-lasting nerve pain) in older adults.

  • RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccines – Arexvy and Abrysvo
There are now RSV vaccines for older adults, such as Arexvy (GSK) and Abrysvo (Pfizer), which help reduce the risk of lower respiratory tract disease from RSV in people aged 60 and above and selected at-risk groups. These vaccines are approved in Singapore but are not yet part of national immunisation schedules, so they are generally unsubsidised.

We will discuss whether these newer vaccines are suitable for you based on your age, medical conditions and risk profile, and how they fit alongside flu and pneumococcal vaccination.

COVID-19 vaccination and boosters

Our clinic participates in the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, providing free COVID-19 vaccinations and updated boosters for eligible individuals, in line with the latest MOH recommendations.

At your visit, we can:

  • Check when you last received a COVID-19 dose
  • Advise whether you are due for an updated booster (for example if you are older, have chronic diseases, are immunocompromised, or are a caregiver)
  • Administer the vaccine and update your records accordingly

We encourage seniors and people with chronic conditions to keep their COVID-19 protection current, as part of broader respiratory infection prevention (along with flu and, where suitable, RSV and pneumococcal vaccines).

Some vaccines are particularly relevant before travel, such as Hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus boosters and certain meningococcal vaccines (e.g. for Umrah/Hajj). These are discussed in greater detail on our Travel Health page, but can be coordinated together with your overall vaccination plan.

How we approach vaccination as Family Physicians

Because we are a family medicine clinic, vaccination is not treated as a one-off “menu” of shots. Instead, we:

  • Review your age, medical conditions, medications, occupation, travel plans and family context
  • Prioritise vaccines that will make the biggest difference for you, rather than simply adding on every possible option
  • Integrate vaccination with Healthier SG health plans, chronic disease management and preventive screening, so that visits are efficient and purposeful
  • Offer both nationally recommended vaccines and selected newer vaccines (e.g. shingles, RSV, broader pneumococcal options, intranasal flu where suitable) with a clear explanation of benefits, limitations, cost and evidence

We are happy to see:

  • Parents who want to keep their children on track with scheduled vaccinations
  • Adults who are unsure what vaccines they have had and want to “catch up”
  • Seniors who wish to reduce their risk of pneumonia, shingles, RSV and severe flu
  • People with chronic conditions who want to understand which vaccines will help them avoid hospitalisations

What to expect at a vaccination visit

  1. History & records review
We go through your (or your child’s) vaccination history, past infections, allergies, medical conditions and medications. If you have vaccination booklets or prior records, please bring them along.

  2. Personalised recommendations
We explain which vaccines are due now, which may be due soon, and which additional vaccines might be worth considering based on your risk profile and preferences.

  3. Explanation and consent
We discuss expected benefits, common side effects, any specific precautions, and clarify subsidies/MediSave use where applicable.

  4. Administration and documentation
Vaccines are administered safely, and your records are updated – including submission to the National Immunisation Registry (NIR) where relevant.

Book a vaccination review

If you are unsure which vaccines you or your family members need, or if you are interested in newer vaccines such as shingles or RSV protection, we would be glad to review this with you.

You can book an appointment online or call us to speak with our staff.
If you have existing vaccination records (e.g. from childhood, school, NS, overseas clinics), please bring them along so that we can build on what you already have and avoid unnecessary duplication.
